The Student Services team provides a broad band of support services that are designed to assist all students to reach their potential. The term Special Needs embraces a range of individual needs which include academic, emotional, physical, social or behavioural difficulties and may include boys with a disability, global or specific learning difficulty or those boys who are identified as Gifted and Talented.

How the Program Works
Boys with learning difficulties, gifts and talents or behaviour difficulties receive appropriate programs designed to realise their potential.  Such assistance may be either in-class or by withdrawal ,depending on the preference of the class teacher and the needs of the boys.  Parents are also an essential part of the team and where possible, are involved in goal setting and provision of support.

Boys who are identified as gifted and talented receive a program designed to provide opportunities to work beyond the core curriculum. The program allows the boys to study not only at a higher level but also at greater depth and faster pace.  Support may be offered to withdrawal groups allowing like minds to work and socialise together, or in-class allowing two teachers to work with each class group.

The Student Services team also consults with other professionals, including those with expertise in Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Counselling and the administration of educational psychological assessments.  These professionals  provide additional insights and support to the team, parents, classroom teachers and boys.

The effectiveness of the program is assessed through regular evaluation of students' skills through Literacy and Numeracy tests, including Australian norm-referenced assessments and work samples. The employment of this collaborative model ensures direct accountability to teachers and parents. Australian norm-referenced tests ensure that our teaching practices and performance levels are of a consistently high standard. The team designs and implements programs especially tailored to meet individual needs.  Groups are needs based and boys move in and out according to results.  Support may be long or short term according the individuals needs.

In summary, the Student Services team has evolved into a multi-professional, collaborative program based on effective systematic identification, assessment and support of students.
